Microcredit Programs: Based in the rural Honduran state of Olancho, FAMA has successfully combined two of the microcredit programs that are at the core of the Katalysis Network: community banks and solidarity groups. Their lending modality was designed to reflect local conditions and for FAMA's extremely poor clientele. The result is community banks with approximately 20 borrowers comprised of subsets of solidarity groups with 3-7 members each. This maximizes the benefits of the smaller solidarity groups - tightly knit cross guaranteeing and pollinating nodules - with the larger numbers of community bank members for the purposes of training and administering by FAMA personnel.
