Microcredit Programs: CDRO was founded in 1981 by leaders of 28 Mayan communities in the Western Highlands of Guatemala to promote integrated rural community development within the framework of the Mayan Quiche philosophy. It is the most prominent indigenous peoples' organization in Central America. CDRO's microfinance loans are combined with training and technical assistance and are delivered throughout their eight programmatic departments: Social Services, Artisan, Infrastructure, Agriculture, Health and Natural Medicine, Education, Basic Consumption and Marketing, and Women's Promotion Programs. Loan methodologies include community banks, solidarity groups, agricultural credits and consumer loans. REFICOM is a separate organization, recently spun off to administer all of CDRO's loan programs.
